Today I accomplished another goal - another 1/2 marathon. I have been so busy with work and life that I really didn't train like I should have so I was REALLY nervous going into the race. Before it even started (when I was walking to the race from my car) my bad ankle started hurting. Not good. Then around mile 1 I started to not feel well. I was hot (the temp was much higher than normal and I had on a long sleeve jacket), my stomach hurt and I just wasn't feeling like I typically do when I run. I think it was at mile 3 where I ran to the bathroom. By mile 4 I started feeling better. Thank goodness because from mile 1 -3 I wasn't sure if I'd be able to finish the race. It was hard. But, I LOVE this race so much. I love the start of the race with the fireworks, I love the energy from the crowd and runners, I love the fact that all ages and walks of life come together and do this, I love that people are literally lined from the start to the finish cheering you on, I love all the signs, but most of all, I love seeing the kids at EVERY mile. They are my inspiration and were my motivation every mile. They really got me through the 13.1 miles. Mile 11 (Angel Mile - honoring all the children who are now in Heaven) was VERY hard for me this year. I actually had to stop looking at the pictures. I feel for all those families and will be adding them to my prayers. I'm so thankful for this race and the fact that so much $ is raised so hopefully one day, we won't have Angel Mile anymore. That is the hope!
So despite not training as much as I should have and stopping to go to the bathroom, my time wasn't terrible. Here's the comparisons from the past four years:

Although my ankle is killing me and I can barely walk....I love this race and will sign up again next year.
